KFMB apologizes for lack of HD

KFMB Channel 8 yesterday apologized to local high-definition TV viewers for not showing CBS Sports' weekend coverage of the Buick Invitational in HD.

"We had technical difficulties with the 5.1 audio," said Barry Smith, KFMB director of programming and creative services, referring to the multichannel digital sound that is standard audio for HDTV programs. "Therefore the HD signal was coming in with no audio. We want to apologize to all our viewers."

Smith said the station "tried feverishly to fix it for hours" but the problem wasn't resolved until Sunday evening. He also said the trouble was "caused by a glitch" and had nothing to do with KFMB's switch to local HD programming yesterday.

Smith said he expected no further problems with the HD signal. CBS is airing Super Bowl XLI on Sunday.

Evergreen Allows You to Connect Two HDMI Devices to One HDMI Input ...

If you are the owner of a HDTV, even a mere year or so old you may be stuck with a problem you havent even noticed yet, one HDMI port. A while back, one HDMI port was enough and many HDTVs shipped with a single.

However, as any one who has jumped into the HD age can tell you one HDMI doesnt really cut it. You need one for your HD Cable or satellite converter and one for your Blu-ray or HD DVD player at a minimum. Unless you enjoy making trips to the TV to change your HDMI cable form the cable box to your high def DVD player you are going to need something like this switch from Evergreen. .

High-def in high demand

Football fanatics are considering the holy trinity of factors this week as they rush electronics stores looking to score big-screen sets in time to watch the Super Bowl.

In the Fort Wayne market, shoppers are split between cheering for the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears. But they're consistently lining up to buy high-definition TVs, local electronics salesmen said.

On Thursday evening, Jack Thomas was in Circuit City, picking up the 37-inch Polaroid HDTV he'd ordered on the company's Web site. He paused to admire the floor model's flat screen, liquid crystal display – or LCD. The sale price was $1,099.99.

"I liked the picture this had," he said. "And it's got to fit in a certain space, my wife's entertainment center, without the use of power tools."

Thomas' wife, by the way, is out of town and doesn't know about her husband's splurge.

Big screen, bigger choices

High Definition TV is any screen with 720 pixels or more from top to bottom, according to the Consumer Electronics Association. HDTV gives the viewer a sharper image over Standard Definition, but with an array of competing initials such DLP, LCD, PDP and LCoS the picture can get pretty fuzzy for a consumer searching for the right TV. .
