What is the difference between LCD and plasma flat-panel TVs? Also, has an HDTV standard for the United States been officially adopted? I am thinking about purchasing a new TV set and am not sure whether it's wise to do it now or wait. LCD TVs use an LCD panel to create the picture. It's the same LCD screen technology you find on laptop computers and digital cameras. Plasma TVs use gas suspended within glass panels and stimulated by an electrical field to create the picture. Each technology has its advantages. Plasmas tend to have a better picture than LCD TVs, while LCD TVs promise better long-term reliability and freedom from screen burn-in worries. .
Foreign firms learn LCD beats plasma TV
After a relentless price war and tough competition against local brands in 2006, foreign flat TV makers expect a better year ahead through adjustments to attract more domestic consumers, strong innovation capacity and an abundant supply of flat TV panels. According to the State Information Center, Chinese consumers bought 4.77 million flat TV sets LCD and plasma screens out of a total 35 million TV sets purchased in the country in 2006. .

January's service project to be held today
Beginning Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Gardner Center Ballroom, students will have the opportunity to make chalkboards for children at one of three places. We will be making them for either the children at the hospital, the Dove Center or Dixie Care and Share, Service Vice President Kristalyn Wood said. All students are invited to attend the three-hour project, consisting of games supplied by members of student government for playing after painting. Wood said she came up with the idea to make chalkboards by watching a home design show on HDTV. Me and my roommates are suckers for HDTV, and the kids on one of the home design shows get them put on their walls all the time, Wood said. I think it is a really fun idea. She said student governments goal is to get between 25-50 5 x 7 boards painted at the activity, which students will also have the opportunity to deliver.
